A New Theme Song

Okay, so anyone who knows me will tell you that I don't know squat about music. Really, buying a new CD or MP3 is quite rare, but I am struggling to restrain myself at the moment. I went to a wedding in Cinci a year or so ago (Doug and Shana's wedding was probably the best I have ever attended in my life! Shana sings in Vineyard Central's "Raise Both Hands" CD), and they had a group there named Over the Rhine. My friend Virgi, who I tagged along with, told me all about the group and how much she just loves their music! As usual, I liked what I heard and believed her, but neglected to find out anymore. When she mentioned them more recently, I decided that I should at least check out their website...That's where the trouble begins...I am addicted to the song "Born" from their new CD called "Drunkard's Prayer". It is taking all that I have to restrain myself from splurging! I can't take it! Clearly, this restraint won't last much longer! Anyway, I've decided that it is my new theme song. CLICK HERE to listen to the tune now permeating my space!

Now, I think it's time for a good blade around MU's empty campus, or as I like to call it, my cement playground;)

You are soooo sweet! I suppose I shouldn't tell you that I already have it linked in my post. It links directly to the MP3. Unfortunately, it is too hard to see, I will have to find a way to make it more visible! I also have their link in my list of linketty links. Still though, I appreciate your efforts, I am glad to have a friend like you;)

Recently I was at a wedding for a cousin of mine.

Years back we had been in a series of bands ... the usual teenagers jamming out nonsensical verses to out-of-tune mayhem. I bowed out to take the academic approach, while my cuz and a few of the guys we jammed with kept playing and are still on the local indie scene.

So what happens at the wedding is a few of these guys get up on stage as the DJ takes a break. Note that no one had any idea they would do this. But they didn't play their usual Tool-inspired material; rather, they broke into classic doo-wap for the dance floor, including a brilliant, spot-on take of Dion's Runaround Sue. Did about 5 such songs before giving the DJ back the floor.

There is something amazing in how well they did this, given industrial rock is what they do. Just not the covers you'd expect. What a party!

Hehe...Spontaneous tunes can be the best! It does sound like a great time, and it appears that it made for great wedding memories for all involved. The extent of my minimal music abilities were being a part of the Medina County Honors Choir (hehe...oh yah, we sang at the fair!) in elementary school and then some choir in Jr. High. We made such a big deal about it back then, but now I just laugh when I think how goofy it all was. My favorite part was in fourth grade when I found an invitation for the honors choir on my desk....hehe...I wasn't even in choir so I thought that there was a mistake. But then, the teacher's daughter proceeded to point out that I didn't deserve to be in it, because I wasn't involved during the year. So, what did I do? After class, I went straight down to the music teacher and accepted the offer! Hehe...yah, I probably wouldn't have done it if not for that comment!

I really admire musicians and wish that I was gifted in that area. Learning an instrument is one thing I regret not doing when I was younger. Being able to play the guitar would come in handy for ministry at home and in the field, but it's not happening right now.
Maybe someday.

oooooooooo Kara Drunkard's Prayer - I fear it will be worn out in a week like all other OTR music in my possession. you are too wonderful for words..... thank you!

BTW in another week (Ok, maybe only a day:) I should know most of the words and harmonies to all the songs hehehe ;)

Bouncebacks! ;) LOL...One CD isn't anything compared to how thankful I am for our friendship! Really though, you have done so much for me and others, even when you have so much on your plate. I absolutely couldn't wait to deliver it! Thanks for being you!

Rock On my beautiful friend!

Smurf~ So glad you enjoy it as well! The lyrics and tone suggest a realness in communication and an understanding that we are all met where we are at; we're all still just learning. As for the wedding..most def the BEST! I think it's one that you would have really appreciated. I will have to tell you about that sometime:)

ogbuefi stephi~ HEHE...yah, I think yours was better; much more descriptive;) When I saw OTR at the wedding, their singing was beautiful, but not exactly the focus of the event;)
Oxford is still fairly quiet, but it seems that everyone is mentally preparing for the intrusion that is to occur shortly.
Thanks so much for the compliments and for stopping by! I will be frequenting your site as well!
